Dress for Success!

Posted by Lorraine C. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 Under: Interviews and Press
As you know, in occasion of International Women's Day 2013 we've decided to give 10% of our profits to Dress for Success London. Here's an insight on who they are and how they help to make the world just a little bit better!
Dress for Success helps women from impoverished backgrounds take control of their lives by providing them with suitable interview clothing, in order to help them become more confident.

Throughout history, fashion has been a great symbol of female empowerment and what we wear can greatly affect first impressions. That's why we've started power dressing, and this is the use of clothing to make someone feel powerful. This concept has been popularised in the 1970s, but it's been present in our society since the beginning of civilisation. Just think about the royals wearing embellished dresses, cascades of gold and opulent pieces to communicate their importance, or religious institutions covered in furs and jewellery.

Women have used clothing to communicate empowerment in a number of different occasions- just think of the Blue Stocking Society, where women discovered culture. In the mid XVIII century, blue stockings were very fashionable amongst women in Paris, and became a symbol of academic growth.

Another example of this phenomenon took place in the late XVIV, early XX century with the Suffragettes: the campaigners were easily recognisable by their uniform.

So, if you want to help us fight for this important cause, make a purchase before midnight March 8th and support Dress for Success!
